The College of Complementary Health Professionals of BC has released a revised clinical practice standard for chiropractic diagnostic imaging, reversing its prior policy that restricted chiropractors from using X-rays as clinically necessary.
OneChiropractic is welcoming the decision as a major milestone following a four-year effort to address what many in the profession viewed as an overly restrictive and unjustified limitation on clinical judgment.
The previous policy significantly curtailed chiropractors’ ability to utilize diagnostic imaging based on their professional assessment. Today’s revision restores the ability of chiropractors in British Columbia to order and use X-rays when clinically indicated, aligning regulatory standards more closely with patient-centered care and evidence-informed practice.
“This has been a long and deliberate process grounded in facts, professionalism, and respectful dialogue,” said Bharon Hoag, Founder and CEO of OneChiropractic. “We are incredibly proud of our team of attorneys and chiropractors in British Columbia who stayed committed to constructive engagement and evidence-based advocacy.”
Hoag emphasized that the outcome demonstrates the impact of civil discourse and persistence.
“This decision shows what’s possible when we hold firm to the science, engage in meaningful conversations, and advocate responsibly for our profession and our patients,” he said. “Today is a big day for chiropractic—not just in British Columbia, but worldwide. We will not allow our profession to be overregulated in ways that limit patient access to appropriate care.”
OneChiropractic has supported the effort since its inception, working alongside legal counsel and local chiropractors to ensure the profession’s clinical autonomy was fairly represented and defended.
The organization views the revised standard as an important precedent in maintaining professional scope and ensuring regulatory frameworks remain balanced, evidence-based, and focused on patient outcomes.
